Michael Crew

Los Angeles

Michael Crew works representationally, often focusing on figures, landscapes, and scenes that tell a story. His subjects may be transported from his own memory of an experience with a person, place, and time, or may be inspired by images he selects. Crew is a natural and skilled draftsman who composes his scenes in a technical manner, plotting out placement and detail in relation to the cumulative elements he intends to include. Beginning with a well-considered sketch as his foundation, Crew layers acrylic paint manipulating tone and mixing colors independently until the work is complete. The result conveys a strong sense of relationship between person, place, object, animal, and emotion.

Michael Crew is from Inglewood, California, and has been making art since 1998.
